    Job Description:


    The House Mentor will help ensure the safety, security, and overall well-being of the children at Bluebonnet Haven.


    Be able to read, write, and communicate with co-workers, medical personnel, and other persons necessary to care for the child’s needs.


    The House Mentors will serve as positive role models for the children at Bluebonnet Haven by modeling for them correct life skills, social skills, professional skills, behavior management, coping skills, and positive self-esteem.


    The House Mentors will include the kids in all life skills around the house such as cooking, cleaning, meal planning, unloading and putting away groceries, dressing appropriately, and hygiene needs.


    The House Mentor must be familiar with and well versed with each child’s Individual Service Plan in the house.  The House Mentor must know the child’s treatment goals, triggers, and coping skills.


    The House Mentor must complete and turn in all paperwork as required.  It must be completed accurately, in entirety, and in the required timeframe. The House Mentor is responsible for making sure the assigned house is being kept in an orderly and clean fashion and up to Minimum Standards and DFPS Contract compliance.


    The House Mentor will perform routine bedroom, house checks to make sure that all areas are safe for the children and staff. The House Mentor will need to have effective and ongoing communication skills to keep a running dialogue between the Lead Mentors, Supervisor, and Shift Supervisors, and children to help ensure positive continuity of care for our children.  


    The House Mentors will be expected to attend Client Support Meetings, TEAM meetings, all required trainings, and any other meetings/trainings deemed appropriate and necessary, when requested.


    The House Mentors will help serve as liaisons for the children in the houses and professional staff so that their concerns are passed on to the correct staff.

     

    The House Mentors will coordinate and actively participate with the children in activities that occur on and off the campus.  This includes board games, arts and crafts, outdoor recreational activities, offsite service/community projects, and any other indoor and outdoor activities.  


    House Mentors will be placed to work where they are needed at that time.  This may be in different houses or different classrooms, and can be moved around as needed.  House Mentors will be required to work on-call shifts when necessary as designated by the Supervisor.  These on-call schedules will be posted in each house.


    House Mentors will utilize the TBRI® and Satori training they have received in order to help manage behavioral concerns in our children.  The TBRI® principles of empowerment, connecting, and correcting will be used continuously throughout the daily routines of our children and the de-escalation and restraint techniques of Satori will be used as needed with our children to help to better control crisis situations.


    The House Mentors must maintain professional boundaries with all Bluebonnet Haven employees and demonstrate professional and courteous working relationships with all Bluebonnet Haven employees and all outside entities.

    The House Mentor must at all times demonstrate professional, healthy boundaries with the children at Bluebonnet Haven.


    The House Mentor must adhere to Bluebonnet Haven’s Confidentiality Policies.


    All employees of Bluebonnet Haven are considered mandated reporters of suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law.  The House Mentor must understand and adhere to Bluebonnet Haven’s policy for documenting and reporting any suspected child abuse or neglect.


    While working in the classrooms as a classroom assistant, the following duties are required:

     1.  Follow all classroom procedures established by the teachers

     2.  Monitor children in the classroom at all times

     3.  Help the students with all classroom work on and off of the computers;  If you do not understand the work then keep the student calm until the teacher can come to help him/her

     4.  Maintain a neat and orderly classroom

     5.  Help the teacher to maintain student documentation such as behavior assessments

     6.  Maintain normal classroom rules and expectations when the teacher is not present 

     7.  Manage student behaviors during school hours and enforce school rules and expectations, including during PE time and school field trips and other extracurricular activities

     8.  Work one on one with students or in small groups as requested by teachers when necessary

     9.  Maintain an open line of communication with teachers so that they are aware of special circumstances or problems of individual  students or that may be going on between specific students

     10. Bluebonnet Haven employees should not have their phones out during class time, should not be listening to music on their phones, playing games on their phone, on social media, etc.  Head phones should not be worn on the head or in the ears during classroom instructional time.  Personal conversations among classroom assistants need to be kept to a minimum and should never be distracting to the teacher or to the students.


    A BH employee’s behavior or health status must not present a danger to children in care.  Each employee must:

    1. Meet the requirements in Minimum Standards relating to Background Check; 

    2. Have a record of tuberculosis screening showing the employee is free of contagious TB; 

    3. Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform assigned tasks; 

    4. Complete a notarized Licensing Affidavit for Applicants of Employment form, as specified in Human Resources Code, §42.059.


    Regardless of whether the employee is counted in the child/caregiver ratio, each employee must:

    1. In the absence of a more specific rule requirement, demonstrate competency,            prudent judgment, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities; 

    2. Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to the Child Abuse Hotline and to the LCCA; All staff will receive pre-service training and annual training in reporting suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

    3. Know and comply with rules of this chapter, Chapter 42 of the Human Resources Code, Chapter 745 of Minimum Standards (relating to Licensing), and any other laws which are relevant to the person’s duties; The HR Director will review and explain all pertinent information with each new hire and annual trainings will review this information.


  • Direct Care Staff - Night Security

    Details/Requirements:

    • 9 pm - 7 am (10 Hour Shifts)
    • 4 Nights on/4 Nights off 
    • Female applicants only at this time
    • Must be at least 21 years or older
    • Have proof of  a High School Diploma/Equivalency (GED)
    • Pass a background check/drug test/TB test
    • PTO - 6 days (60 Hours) Kicks in at 90 days, use or lose by anniversary, after 2 years it goes to 8 days (80 Hours)


    Job Description:


    The Night Security will help ensure the safety, security, and overall well-being of the children at Bluebonnet Haven.


    Be able to read, write, and communicate with co-workers, medical personnel, and other persons necessary to care for the child’s needs.


    The Night Security will need to stay awake during their entire shift and continually monitor the bedrooms and house to ensure that all children are safe and accounted for throughout the entire night every 10-15 minutes.


    The Night Security will be responsible for paperwork that will need to be completed on each child’s behaviors throughout the night.


    The Night Security is responsible for assisting children with minor issues when they wake up during the night, as they have been trained.  However, they must immediately wake House Mentors if they feel there is a more difficult issue or that they cannot handle or an emergency situation and then also call the Shift Supervisor. 


    The Night Security must complete and turn in all paperwork as required.  It must be completed accurately, in entirety, and in the required timeframe. The Night Security will be expected to attend TEAM meetings, all required trainings, and any other meetings/trainings deemed appropriate and necessary, when requested.


    Night Security will be placed in the house where they are needed at that time.  This may be in different houses and she can be moved around as needed.
